Column Reproduction for Historic House Expansion.

The historic 1912 Ogletree House was to undergo a significant expansion while maintaining the period look throughout.  This required reproduction of six large porch columns.  To quote from the contractor, "We need 6 more columns. The Architect added 6 to the project not thinking that they had to be made to match the existing. He thought they we available at any hardware store. I guess that is the difference in column replacement and column reproduction."

Having never visited the site or having any drawings for the columns we worked with the contractor, Gabe McNeil of McNeil Cabinets to get the information required to match the columns.  We drew an approximation of the column from the photographs and some overall measurements, and then asked him to fill in the blanks measuring the circumference at regular intervals.  His response was to return the drawing with dimensions noted, see below.  Shop drawings were made and the columns, capitals and bases were fabricated from Spanish Cedar, crated and shipped to Mississippi.
